MOVIE-CON TESTIMONIALS

A WORD FROM THE VISITORS

I have been to Movie-Con for the past two years and it is the highlight of my summer. Ranging from Q & A's with actors, Academy-Award winning directors and studio execs to first-look glimpses of future film releases, it is exciting to see what is on offer each year... I wish it could happen more than once a year! Katie Wong (AKA GuitarGal_china)

Movie-Con is my favourite weekend of the year, the quality of the artists in attendance never ceases to amaze me, as does the affability and good humour of it's organisers. I shall be arranging my wedding next year around it! Charlotte Gaze

As someone who went to both San Diego Comic Con and Movie-Con last year, I can safely say that even though Movie-Con was smaller, it was far superior, bringing in a more personal atmosphere and the friendly faces of the Empire staff certainly didn't hurt. Movie-Con, the only con worth going to in my opinion... Jack Gregson

Movie Con is exactly what you would expect from Empire magazine - fun, exciting, informative and full of A-list stars. Definitely the highlight of my cinema-going year. Dan Collins

I've attended every Movie Con since they began and it's amazing to see what it has evolved into this year. While we had a more personal touch having the previous Con's at the BFI, Empire seem to have stepped it up a gear this year which reflects its increasing popularity. Highlights in the past for me include seeing "Peter Jackson presents" come on the screen at Movie Con II knowing we were getting to see District 9 months before its release and another Movie Con II moment when Robert Downey Jr. turned up, not once, but twice over the 2 day event. I moved to Russia in October 2009 and at the start of the year I always make sure I book the second weekend in August off to make sure I can get to Movie Con/Big Screen it's a long way to travel and it costs quite a bit but it's worth every penny to spend those few days with a bunch of the coolest people around to watch brilliant clips and exclusive screenings. Can't wait until August!      Simon Davies

Screw San Diego Comic-Con, for me it has to be Movie Con. Not only is it cheaper and easier to attend but you don't have to deal with all those costumed freaks! It's the most enjoyable film filled weekend a movie geek can have all year. In the last few years I've sat ten feet away from Robert Downey Jnr, seen exclusive previews, Q&As and won some great prizes.     Dallas King

I broke my Movie-Con cherry last year after hearing such rave reviews from the other forumites and I was not disappointed. It’s not just the incredible previews, the chance to speak to the special guests and meeting the amazing people behind Empire Magazine, but it’s a chance to feel as one with all the great, like-minded people who are there. I’ve made some smashing new friends thanks to Empire Movie-Con. I got goosebumps watching the Captain America trailer last year, I was weak at the knees chatting to Kenneth Branagh about Thor and booed out of the building for insulting Chloe Mortez. What could possibly make a better weekend?      Neil Brazier

I was struggling over what to actually write for this, but after you mentioned specific memories over certain people turning up, I would have to go with either RDJ turning up twice over the space of my first MC (MC-II: The Wrath of Con), which really hammered home just how big Empire as a magazine is, or when Danny Boyle turned up on the Friday of MC-III: Con Vs Con. I've never been so happy to be literately yards away from one of my cinema heroes, and to also have the chance to quiz him about 'Sunshine' (which is still the only film to ever leave me speechless), That's the true essence of the 'con experience. Giving plebs like me from the arse end of nowhere, Yorkshire, the chance to meet the people who have helped shape their lives.    Lee

It's a weekend a year that changed my life, not just financially but also because you get to sit in a dark room for 3 full days, and isn't that the great American Dream? It's also full of celebrities, like you see in movies, only projected in human form and usually only 6 feet tall, and more bearded, than the big screen counterparts.    Andrew Jones
